Passado Contínuo

O past continuous é utilizado para descrever ações que ocorreram por determinado tempo no passado.

It was raining last night.

My father was walking at the park.

Geralmente essas ações são interrompidas por ações também no passado (usamos o past
continuous juntamente ao simple past).

When we arrived the teacher was writing on the board

The dog was sleeping when the cat jumped.

It was raining when they talked on the phone.

 The boy was sleeping during the class. [O menino estava dormindo durante a aula]

Passado Contínuo Negativo

• Note que em um diálogo entre duas ou mais pessoas, I, we e you são usados em perguntas e respostas. Veja um exemplo de diálogo:

- Were you watching TV around nine o’clock? [Você estava vendo TV lá pelas nove horas?]

- Yes, I was. I was watching a movie. [Sim, eu estava. Eu estava vendo um filme.]

- Were you and your brother playing soccer at the club this morning? [Você e o seu irmão estavam jogando futebol no clube hoje de manhã?]

- No, we weren’t. We were in school. [Não, não estávamos / a gente não estava. A gente estava na escola.]
